It took a lot of work gathering, sorting and loading comics, but right before Christmas, we delivered 12,000 comics to veterans, deployed troops and their families! Thanks again to everyone who donated comics!
Here’s the story of the delivery:
Writing Notes to the Troops & Veterans
I wrote notes to the troops and veterans who are getting the comics and we stuck them between the comics as a surprise.
Loading the Truck
These comic books are so heavy! Why do we have to have such a long driveway?
Everything Has to Fit
This is a huge truck and there's a lot more comics to put in it. It was just me and my dad loading 12,000 comics into the truck. It was a morning filled with hard work.
Taking a Break!
Finally, a chance to relax! Dad stop taking pictures!
First Stop: Lyons Veterans Affairs Hospital
Just like we did earlier this year, we stopped off at the Lyons VA Hospital. I hope this helps the veterans have something fun to read!
Finally - A Little Help!
Unloading at Joint Base McGuire Dix Lakehurst was a lot easier than loading thanks Sergeant Pete Olmos and his men!
Filling up a Hallway at the Base
We filled the hallway up with comics so they can be sent to deployed troops and their families. Last time, comics made it as far as Afghanistan and Qatar. I wonder where these will go. Hopefully the people who get these comics will send more pictures!
From the Family Center to Troops Everywhere!
The Military and Family Support Center will make sure that the comics will get where they need to go.
Red Cross Challenge Coin
The Red Cross gave me their challenge coin for donating comics! They also gave one to Jennifer Myers and my dad for their help. It's a really cool addition to my collection!
Mission Accomplished!
A huge thanks to everyone who helped!
Sgt. Olmos said these comics will be going right out to deployed troops. We brought some extra for kids at the base - and hopefully plenty of people who work at the base get some, too!
With a Little Help from My Friends!
A huge thanks to everyone who helped!
Chris Adams, Jeff Beck, Michael Ciccone, Steven Donohue, Master Sergeant Dominic Griego, Stan Kalucki, Jennifer Myers, Sgt. Pete Olmos, John Paul, Bob Stevenson, James Sugrue, Tony Tothe and Michael Williams - we couldn't have done it without you!
To everyone who gets a comic from this donation - we all hope you have some fun!
We still have more comics to donate, so we’ll definitely be doing this again. Stay tuned!
One important update: The Department of Veteran Affairs told me that the comics that we donated to the hospital are going to be used in a program for homeless veterans. I think that’s really cool! Thanks again so much to everybody who donated!
